2015 Peugeot 208 GTi (SOLD)
This car puts out 300Nm on its front wheels despite weighing just over 1000kg. The facelift 208 GTi featured a host of updates that more than justified its RM10,000 price difference from the pre facelift model. Aside from the 8hp and significant 25Nm hike in power and torque, the gearbox is a different part number, along with the pistons, downpipe, dampers and springs. Plus they came with forged pistons for the facelift model.
You notice how much more different the car is the moment you start it up, where it has a much more audible growl on idle which grows significantly on throttle. The the gear shift itself is much more firmer and solid. By removing the panoramic roof, there was over 50kg of weight saved, bringing the overall centre of gravity lower and with the retuned dampers, make it an absolute hoot to drive.
Its much more relaxed tuned suspension may not win praises agains head to head comparisons on track, but on our backroads, its merciless. The relaxed damping allows the 208 GTi to glide over rough and complex surfaces with absolute ease, holding its line while other stiffer spung cars get thrown around. You can put that low down torque to good use to slight shot it out of tight turns with ease. It is a potent drivers machine that trains the driver to step up their game.
Yet when you drive around town it gives a remarkable fuel consumption thats better than of the Honda City and dare we way Proton Iriz. There’s significant room at the back seats, accommodating 6 foot adults with ease. The boot is also just as spacious and with the foldable back seats it is a practical package. It even comes with 2 ISOFIX mounts. Then theres the interior upholstered by fabric and leather in red and black motives. With aluminium on the pedals and gearknob which feels like its custom work straight out of the factory.
For those who want a unique driving experience and willing to venture away from the common path, the Peugeot 208 GTi facelift is a rewarding experience.
